Two Species, One Boat: A Custom Combination Salmon–Halibut Day Out from Homer.
From the gravel spit at Homer the water opens into world-class grounds where anglers can split a single day between bottom-bouncing for halibut and trolling for salmon. Combination trips let you trade time between species, change rigs mid-trip and chase whatever bite the sea hands you—making for a compact, highly customizable way to sample Homer’s celebrated fisheries.

Homer—The Halibut Capital
Homer’s reputation as a halibut capital is earned: halibut are commonly targeted from April through November (they can be caught most of the year, with January closed), average around 20 lb., and may reach much larger sizes; regulations limit halibut to two fish per person per day.
Switch Gears: Bottom Rigs to Trollers
Combination trips include a gear change and a run to the salmon grounds so you can bottom-fish for halibut then troll for kings or silvers depending on season—Daniel typically divides time between species unless the chartered group requests otherwise.
A Flexible, Private Charter
These combination trips work particularly well when you charter the whole boat: there’s no extra charge to pursue both species, and the group can decide how to allocate time between halibut and salmon.
What the day feels like
How the Day Unfolds
You meet at the harbor, run out to halibut grounds for a stretch of bottom fishing, then change gear and head to salmon water to troll for kings or silvers. The trip is organized so you can spend roughly equal time on each species unless your group—especially if you’ve chartered the whole boat—decides to bias the schedule toward one target.
