Oxford’s intimate streets and collegiate cloisters concentrate a remarkable range of stained and leaded glass, from Gothic revival windows to Pre‑Raphaelite painterliness. On this private, two‑hour tour an accredited guide leads you to carefully chosen vantage points where sunlight and coloured glass reveal the city’s layered history of art, religion and scholarship.

Highlights

Outing Highlights

THE MASTERPIECES

Pre‑Raphaelite and Enlightenment Windows

See Edward Burne‑Jones’s Pre‑Raphaelite panels at Christ Church Cathedral and Joshua Reynolds’s painterly glass The Virtues at New College — windows that tie Oxford’s artistic patrons and academic life together in colour and story.

THE ARCHITECTURAL THREAD

Gothic Revival and Victorian Craftsmanship

Examine Gothic revival glass by A.W.N. Pugin in the University Church of St Mary the Virgin and Victorian stained glass in Trinity College Chapel, examples of how religious and aesthetic movements shaped Oxford’s visual identity across centuries.

THE LOCAL LENS

Hidden Gems and Collegiate Context

Your guide highlights lesser‑known windows and the stories of patrons, scholars and conservators, placing each piece in the wider sweep of Oxford’s political and religious history.
