Classroom sessions cover chart symbols and chart study, compass corrections and course-to-steer problems, plotting dead reckoning and fixes, and using tide and current guides along with weather and fog-navigation discussion.

Bring bottled water and snacks, the ASA textbook, Tr 1210 chart and logbook, a writing pad, pens and pencils, eraser, parallel rulers and dividers, a calculator and watch, plus reading glasses or a magnifying glass as needed.
Optional publications to bring include Chart #1, local NOAA charts, and Captain Jack’s Tide/Current publications.
Be prepared with tools for plotting (parallel rulers, dividers), a calculator and a watch for time/speed/distance problems, and the ASA textbook and Tr 1210 chart for exercises.
