Perched on Scarborough’s eastern flank, Cayton Bay offers an unspoilt stretch of beach where Scarborough Surf School runs private one‑to‑one beginner sessions. These lessons combine dry‑side theory, warm‑ups and two hours of tailored in‑water coaching delivered by ISA‑qualified surf coaches who also act as SLSGB beach lifeguards. The format is explicitly progressive: instructors adapt each session to an individual’s goals to speed learning and build confidence in the white water and beyond.

What the day feels like

What the Two Hours Feel Like

You’ll start on the sand—short theory, local conditions and a warm up—before moving to equipment talks and a focused progression in the water. The coach will teach paddling technique and board position, guide entries into the surf, help you catch white‑water and coach your pop‑up; there’s a halfway beach assessment to reframe technique, then more water time and a final debrief to consolidate progress.
