Outing Highlights
A 9 km trek that climbs into cooler forest
The trail ascends from scrubby lower slopes into tall, shady forest over about 9 km (5 miles). The change in temperature and vegetation on the approach underscores the Sierra’s diversity and frames much of the hike’s appeal.
A forest of ferns, mushrooms and tillandsias
Expect close-up encounters with local flora: mushrooms, ferns and Tillandsias punctuate the forest understory—species and formations characteristic of the Sierra Juárez that many visitors haven’t seen before.
Zapotec stories and summit hot chocolate
Along the way your guide will interpret Zapotec relationships with the mountains and forests, and at the top you’ll learn the history of chocolate and taste hot chocolate made from scratch, served with bread against a mountain panorama.
