THE ROUTE

Three days of river travel from Whakahoro to Pipiriki

The itinerary unfolds with a relaxed first-day paddle to John Coull campground, a day that includes the Bridge to Nowhere and a marae pōwhiri at Tīeke Kāinga, and a final morning of rapids and a three‑hour stretch to Pipiriki.

THE CULTURE

A traditional pōwhiri and guided cultural connection

Your group is welcomed on day two at Tīeke Kāinga with a pōwhiri on the marae—an intentional cultural moment led by the trip’s trained navigators as part of the fully guided experience.

THE WILDERNESS

Native forest, birdlife and beginner-friendly rapids

Camping at John Coull places you deep in native bush where kererū, tūī and pīwakawaka are common; at dusk you may also encounter long‑tailed bats and hear kiwi, while safe, fun rapids stretch the final day.

What the day feels like

What the three days feel like

The trip balances long, serene river stretches with purposeful stops: a six‑hour first‑day paddle to a tucked‑away campsite, a cultural day around Mangapurua Landing and the Bridge to Nowhere with a pōwhiri at Tīeke Kāinga, then a final morning navigating beginner‑friendly rapids en route to Pipiriki before a shared farewell lunch.
