Design your day for a 3–3.5 hour guided hike; most routes sit between about 6,600 and 7,400 ft, making this a good early acclimatization option.
Bring a rain jacket and layered clothing, hat and sunglasses, sunscreen, sturdy closed-toe shoes with good traction (flip-flops are not allowed), and 2 liters of water at the start of the tour; guides provide daypacks and adjustable trekking poles.
Included: Osprey Daylite Plus 20L packs, adjustable trekking poles, snacks, a gourmet sandwich & chips lunch with dietary accommodations, transport to/from lodging within 5 miles of Durango’s center, and a WFR-trained guide. Not included: your rain jacket and layers, appropriate footwear, personal snacks, trip/medical insurance, water bottles (clients must be able to carry 1–2 liters), and guide gratuity.
Guides can pick up guests from lodging within 5 miles of Durango’s city center or meet at an established location; mixed-group tours may require multiple pickup stops, so be on time to avoid delays.

Frequently asked questions
Planning Your Outing
Do I need to be in excellent shape to do this tour?
No; the tour is highly modifiable and guides will plan a route that matches your fitness level, though you should be able to carry a light backpack and walk for the duration with multiple breaks. Complete the health profile on booking so the guide can choose an appropriate route.
Is there a minimum age to participate?
There is no strict minimum age for private tours, but on mixed tours guests should generally be at least five years old and able to hike for the entire duration; anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
What about tipping the guide?
Gratuity is not expected but is appreciated; typical tips range from 15–20% of the tour price when guests are satisfied with the guide’s service.
Will you accommodate food allergies or dietary restrictions?
Yes; the provided lunch comes from Durango Natural Foods and Meraki can provide vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options if you notify them in advance of any allergies or restrictions.
How does pickup and transportation work?
Guides will pick you up from lodging within five miles of Durango’s city center or meet you at an agreed location; for mixed-group tours expect multiple stops and staggered drop-offs based on the guide’s plan.
What happens if I don’t fill out the health information accurately?
Failing to provide complete and accurate health information can put yourself and others at risk and may lead the guide to alter or cancel participation; full disclosure on the registration health profile is required to design a safe tour.
