Details to review before reserving
The event on Sunday, September 21, 2025 runs 5:00–7:30 p.m. for a total duration of 2.5 hours, combining an approximately 1.5-hour roundtrip silent hike with a one-hour sound journey.
Bring a mat and anything else for the sound bath (blanket, bolster, pillow). For the hike wear closed-toe shoes with ankle support (tennis or hiking shoes), dress in layers, and consider hat, sunglasses, camera, bug spray and sunscreen. Walking sticks are available to borrow. Bring your own reusable water bottle; only water is allowed on the trail.
Parking is for registered Westcave guests only; access to the grotto and cave is available by guided tour only. Please do not use ride-share services for pickup as the preserve is outside their service range.
Two composting toilets and sinks are available; preserve rules prohibit swimming, pets, smoking, biking, flying drones, collecting, glass containers, geocaching, and off-trail activity. Bottled water is available for purchase but no food is sold on-site.

What is the difference between a Sound Bath + Silent Guided Hike and the Guided Canyon Tour?
Both events go down to the waterfall and cave area, but the meditative Silent Hike is designed for relaxation and listening to the grotto followed by a sound bath at the visitor center; the Guided Canyon Tour focuses on natural, cultural, and geologic interpretation by expert naturalists and storytellers.
Do I have to take a guide? I just want to hike to the canyon and cave by myself.
Access to the grotto and cave is available by guided tour only; self-guided access is not permitted.
What do I bring and wear for the hike and sound bath?
Wear comfortable closed-toe shoes with ankle support, dress in layers, and bring hat, sunglasses, camera, bug spray, and sunscreen. For the sound bath bring your own mat and any blankets, bolsters, or pillows for comfort. Walking sticks are available to borrow and guests are encouraged to bring a reusable water bottle.
How difficult is the hike?
The hike is approximately one mile roundtrip and is rated moderate to difficult; it requires descending and ascending a long, uneven 125-step staircase and navigating additional steps, rocks, and roots.
Are pets allowed?
No pets are allowed on the Preserve, even if on a leash; pets may not be left in vehicles and guests with pets will be asked to leave. The preserve recommends Milton Reimers Ranch Park for pet outings.
Can we swim at Westcave?
No — there is no swimming at Westcave and no access to the Pedernales River from the preserve.
Can I take a ride share to Westcave?
Please do not take a ride share (for example Uber or Lyft) to Westcave; the preserve is outside the service range for pickups and you may become stranded.
Is this child-friendly? Can my baby or toddler attend?
The yoga or sound bath with a silent hike is for ages 13 years old and up to preserve the meditative experience.
Are there restrooms on site?
Yes — two composting toilets and sinks for hand washing are available for guest use; cleaning and disinfecting procedures are in place.
