What the day feels like
What the 1½‑day paddle feels like
You begin in the afternoon in Pappenheim—there’s often time beforehand for a quick castle visit—then slide into slow, scenic stretches of the Altmühl toward Zimmern where a short portage leads to a beer garden pause (note: closed on Wednesdays). After a second carry you arrive at AKTIV MÜHLE in Solnhofen and spend the night at the INSEL CAMP; the next day is the most scenic section, paddling past boat slides at Hammermühle and Hagenacker and the dramatic rock group known as the “12 Apostel” before finishing in Dollnstein.
