Short Paddle, Full Character: Canal-side Kayaking from Dorlar into Wetzlar.
This compact Lahn excursion covers 6.5 km of varied water: a 2–3 hour group paddle that sends you past manual locks, boat passages and weirs into Wetzlar’s riverfront old town. The route blends hands-on lock operation with a short urban stretch that rewards paddlers with immediate views of historic streets and the chance to step ashore for a beer garden close to the Kanustation.

Hands-on lock work in Naunheim
Shortly after launch paddlers reach a manual lock in Naunheim that must be operated by the group—one of several practical, memorable moments on the route.
Three weirs and boat passages
The section includes three weirs with boat passages: a fish-bristle pass, a roll system and other boat passages that shape the flow and rhythm of the paddle.
Into the Goethestadt: Wetzlar’s riverside old town
The final short stretch delivers you past the training course into Wetzlar, where the old town sits right on the Lahn and invites a brief visit after the paddle.
What the day feels like
How the short trip unfolds
The outing begins with a slip launch in Dorlar and moves quickly into a series of engineered river obstacles—manual locks and boat passages—before easing into a short urban run into Wetzlar. At roughly 6.5 km and two to three hours including breaks, the tour balances paddling, practical lock operation and time to step ashore in town; operators supply a briefing, boats and full basic kit.
