Located in the heart of Colorado, San Isabel National Forest encompasses over a million acres of breathtaking landscapes, stretching across the Arkansas River Valley to the Sawatch and Sangre de Cristo mountain ranges. The forest offers a striking variety of ecosystems, from high-altitude tundra and lush groves of aspen to vast coniferous forests. Within its vast expanse are 19 peaks over 14,000 feet, known as 'Fourteeners,' including the majestic Mount Elbert, the highest point in the Rocky Mountains. The forest also features the Collegiate Peaks Wilderness and the Sangre de Cristo Wilderness, which allure trekkers and wilderness seekers from around the globe.
