Bein Eighe National Nature Reserve, located in the northwestern Highlands of Scotland near Loch Maree, is one of the country's oldest and most ecologically significant protected areas. Established in 1951, it protects over 4,800 acres of ancient Caledonian pine woodland—the largest remnant of this native forest type in the UK. The reserve's landscape is dominated by rugged mountains, steep slopes, and deep glens, including the notable Slioch mountain which rises sharply from the shore of Loch Maree.
