Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage

Tapanti National Park covers approximately 360 square kilometers in the Orosi Valley and is part of the larger La Amistad Biosphere Reserve. The park is known for its dense rainforests, abundant rainfall, and high biodiversity. It provides crucial habitat for numerous species including mammals, birds, and amphibians. Notably, the park is a habitat for the resplendent quetzal and numerous hummingbird species. The mountainous terrain and rich ecosystems make it ideal for hiking and wildlife observation. Established in 1982, the park plays a significant role in water conservation, as it protects the Río Grande de Orosí, a vital water source for Costa Rica's hydro-electric power.
