The area is defined by the Ragged Mountain Reservoir, which supplies water to the nearby city of Charlottesville, and its surrounding forested hills. The natural area is an attraction for visitors seeking a peaceful escape in a semi-rural setting with ample opportunities for hiking, bird-watching, and seasonal fishing.
