Lava Hot Springs Downtown Park is located in southeastern Idaho’s Bannock County along the Portneuf River. The park serves as the heart of the small town of Lava Hot Springs, providing easy access to natural geothermal hot spring pools that attract visitors year-round. The park features five terraced soaking pools heated by mineral-rich volcanic water that bubbles up from deep underground, maintaining a pleasant temperature between 102°F and 112°F. Surrounding these pools are well-maintained grass lawns, picnic areas, playgrounds, and riverfront paths. The Portneuf River flows gently through the park offering spots for tubing and fishing during warmer months, while the town and park are known to host festivals and community events throughout the year. Ecologically, the riparian zone along the river supports cottonwoods, willows, and native wildlife such as songbirds, deer, and beavers. The area has a long history of use by Native American tribes who valued the healing waters before European settlers established the resort town in the early 20th century. Today, visitors come for a combination of natural hot spring bathing, outdoor recreation, and community atmosphere.
