Kinder Scout SSSI covers a significant upland area in the Peak District National Park, characterized by its extensive gritstone plateau rising to 636 meters, the highest point in the Peak District and Northern England. The site represents one of the most important examples of heather moorland and blanket bog in the United Kingdom, providing critical habitat for a variety of upland flora and fauna. It features broad expanses of peat bogs, heather moor, acidic grassland, and unique stream habitats. Historically, Kinder Scout gained prominence through the 1932 Mass Trespass, a pivotal event in the campaign for public access to open country and national parks. Outdoor enthusiasts are attracted by the dramatic landscape including famous edges such as Kinder Downfall, where a prominent waterfall cascades off the plateau, and the deep gritstone valleys.
