Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage

Mount Magazine State Park is located in the Ouachita National Forest in western Arkansas and includes the summit of Mount Magazine, the highest point in Arkansas at 2,753 feet. The park covers rugged mountainous terrain with distinctive geological features, including towering cliffs, deep hollows, and panoramic views across the Arkansas River Valley and Ozarks Plateau. The environment supports rich biodiversity including oak-hickory forests, pine stands, and habitats for several rare and endemic species such as the common raven, black bear, and the federally endangered red-cockaded woodpecker.
