The Cliffs of Moher UNESCO Global Geopark is renowned for its breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean from remarkable heights. It's a haven for geology enthusiasts and offers exceptional birdwatching opportunities.

Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage

The Cliffs of Moher UNESCO Global Geopark, located in County Clare on Ireland's west coast, stretches nearly 14 kilometers along the Atlantic Ocean. These imposing sea cliffs rise abruptly to heights of over 214 meters at their highest point near O'Brien's Tower. The geopark is renowned for its rich geological history, encapsulating over 300 million years within its layers of shale and sandstone. The impressive height and proximity to the ocean create a habitat for various seabirds, including puffins, guillemots, and razorbills, making it an important bird-watching site. Historically, the cliffs have been important lookout points and their dramatic scenery has inspired countless artists and writers. Visitors can enjoy a range of outdoor activities such as hiking the well-maintained paths along the cliffs, birdwatching, and even catching glimpses of dolphins and seals in the waters below. O'Brien's Tower, built in 1835 as a vantage point for tourists, continues to offer panoramic views for those who climb to its top.
