Ellicott Rock Wilderness spans approximately 8,274 acres and extends into South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia. It was established in 1975 to preserve its primitive character and natural environment. The wilderness is characterized by dense hardwood forests, steep canyons, and numerous streams, including part of the Chattooga River. The centerpiece is Ellicott Rock, marked by surveyor Andrew Ellicott in 1811 as the point where the boundaries of the three states meet. Its geographic and ecological diversity supports a range of wildlife such as black bears, white-tailed deer, and numerous bird species.
