What the float feels like

Expect a relaxed, social outing: a gentle, scenic start that eases you into the Cowichan River before the channel narrows and the current livens for the remainder of the run. The whole experience is designed as a leisurely float rather than an adrenaline-packed whitewater run.

Suitability

Who it's for

Who this Family Pass suits—and who should think twice.

1
Active FamiliesWell suited: tube options (regular and swift tubes) and tube straps allow parents and small children to share when appropriate, though adults and older kids are encouraged to book their own tubes for comfort.
2
Dog OwnersSmall dogs are welcome to sit on laps and are permitted on the bus; medium and large dogs are not recommended because they can’t easily ride in a tube and the swim back would be long.
3
Casual OutdoorsersIdeal for people seeking a relaxed scenic float rather than intense whitewater—this is a mellow river outing with only a modest increase in pace later in the run.
4
Groups Sharing GearFeasible: you can tie bags and coolers to tubes or use a swift tube (which has a bottom) to carry belongings; ask staff for tube straps to link tubes together.

Frequently asked questions

Planning Your Outing

Can we take bags and coolers down the river?

Yes — you can tie items onto your tubes or use a swift tube, which has a bottom to hold anything you bring.

Can two people share a tube?

Regular tubes fit one person; swift tubes are a good option for an adult and small child together. Staff recommend adults and older kids book their own tubes and use a tube strap to float together—available at the counter.

Can we bring our dog?

Small dogs can sit on your lap and are allowed on the bus. Medium to large dogs aren’t recommended since they can’t sit in a tube with you and the swim back would be a long distance; they are permitted on the bus if you choose to bring them.

Should we wear shoes?

Not required, but wearing shoes will make the end of the trip more enjoyable.

How rough is the trip—are there rapids?

The first hour is a laid-back journey past old bridges; the ride picks up a bit as the river narrows but it remains a relaxing float rather than a high-adrenaline run.
