Rappel Foundations at Telegraph Cove: Two Hours on Real Rock to Build Confidence.
Rappel Foundations is a short, instructor-led clinic that introduces first-timers to rappelling on natural rock in a controlled, coastal setting. Over a focused two-hour session participants learn harness and helmet fitting, device setup and safety checks, rope awareness and communication, and controlled descents — all without water exposure, so you can concentrate on technique and confidence-building.

Outing Highlights
Secluded cove and real rock cliffs
After a short 5-minute walk from the Telegraph Cove Campground parking area, the group works on natural rock above a quiet coastal beach — an ideal, low-commitment place to practice real rappelling technique without river or canyon hazards.
Hands-on instruction from trained rappel instructors
Sessions are led by WCA-trained rappel instructors who provide hands-on coaching and paced instruction so participants of varying comfort levels progress together while the guide manages safety checks and rope systems.
Technique-focused, dry rappelling practice
This is a dry rappelling skills session — no water, no canyoning — designed to build rope awareness, safe device setup, and confident controlled descents as preparation for more advanced canyoning or single-pitch rappels.
What the day feels like
What the two hours feel like
The clinic moves at a measured pace: waivers and gear fitting, a short walk to a sheltered coastal cove, on-rock demonstrations and repeated practical descents under instructor supervision. It’s structured to remove the extra variables of water and cold so you can focus on body position, rope handling and clear communication with the belayer or instructor.
