The tour is described as a late-afternoon, light-filled experience; in warmer months (April–October evenings are noted as especially striking) there is the option to swim during the cruise.
Bring weather-appropriate layers and sun protection for time on deck; on hot days be prepared to swim (swimwear, towel). Lifejackets are provided onboard and boats include a small cooler for drinks.
Embarkation is at the marina beside the dam; there is a possible land component beginning at the Centro de Interpretação de Alqueva, which is about 800 m from the quay and transfers between the CIAL and the quay are not included.
