Manta Blue Spot sits off the northeast tip of São Miguel, a blue-water dive on a rocky shoal where the seabed rises from profound depths toward a pinnacle that invites manta rays, billfish and other large pelagic species into open water. Operators run this full-day program in summer with guided dives, equipment and local provisions to support two dives in clear blue depths.

Outing Highlights

THE ENCOUNTER

Mantas in the Blue

This site is known for manta ray encounters: dives are conducted in the blue at variable depths where jamantas are expected to appear alongside large pelagic fish.

THE TOPOGRAPHY

A Rocky Shoal Rising from the Deep

The dive area is a rocky low whose top lies well up the water column, with the bottom rising from around 100 meters up toward a shoal near 60 meters below the surface—providing a steep vertical profile for pelagic activity.

THE SUPPORT

A Full-Day, Guided Boat Program

The program runs as a full-day trip with expert guide support, cylinders and weights supplied for two dives, and regional snacks, fruit and water included aboard.

What the day feels like

What the Day Feels Like

You leave from the marina at Vila Franca do Campo for roughly an hour-long run to the northeast point, anchoring off a deep blue drop where two guided dives are staged along an anchor line. Dives range between about 10 and 20 meters, using the anchor cable as a steady visual reference while keeping watch for mantas and large pelagics that patrol the open water.

Suitability

3
Families with Certified DiversFamilies can participate provided members meet the minimum Level 2 certification and the operator’s pre-trip coastal-dive requirement.
4
Beginner or Non-Certified TravelersNot suitable for non-certified or novice divers — the operator requires a minimum Level 2 certification and a prior coastal dive with the company before joining.
