Downriver Through Mangroves: A 55km River Safari on the Maroochy.
The River Safari on the Maroochy is a paced, two‑hour waterborne exploration that threads coastal beaches, sandbars and rainforest‑lined bends along a 55km stretch of river. It offers a clear-eyed way to read how the Sunshine Coast folds from coast into hinterland — a place where open water gives way to secluded mangrove creeks and frequent wildlife sightings.

Outing Highlights
Beaches, Sandbars and the River Mouth
The lower reaches open up to reveal a string of pristine riverfront beaches and sandbars near the river mouth — one of the tour’s quieter vantage points for wide coastal views.
Birds of Prey, Rays and River Life
As the river narrows and winds, expect active tidal creek life — fish, eagle and bull rays — and a range of native birds and raptors such as ospreys, herons and sea eagles that patrol the channel.
Dunethin Rock and Hinterland Vistas
Further upriver the scenery opens near Dunethin Rock, a towering outcrop that provides sweeping river views, while Mount Coolum and Mount Ninderry punctuate the skyline throughout the journey.
What the day feels like
How the trip unfolds
The tour launches from an office along the inside of Chambers Island with a few relaxed laps to settle in, then heads downstream past Twin Waters toward the river mouth and riverfront beaches. On the return route the river narrows through the Bli Bli region and Coolum Creek into sheltered mangrove forests, before opening again near Dunethin Rock and winding up toward the quiet turnaround just before Yandina.
