Outing Highlights

THE ROUTE

Artemis: Cyprus’s high-elevation trail

An easy, 8 km section on the Artemis trail takes you across high ground characterised by black pines and endemic Troodos junipers, with wide vistas to multiple coasts — the trail is noted as the highest elevation trail in Cyprus.

THE VILLAGE

Kakopetria’s stone-built old quarter

Meander through Kakopetria’s old quarter to find an old olive press, a watermill and a small church; shady streamside verandas invite a Cyprus coffee and local trout at nearby restaurants.

THE HERITAGE

Agios Nicolaos tis Stegis: frescoes and a surviving chapel

Visit the 11th-century painted church of Agios Nicolaos tis Stegis — a former monastery where only the chapel survives and the frescoes, spanning from the 11th century onward, are a principal cultural draw (note: the chapel is closed on Mondays).
