SAN DIEGO SNORKEL FIELD GUIDE
Mermaid Snorkel at Catalina: Glide Like a Local in the Cold Clear Coves
A guided, no-experience-necessary mermaid snorkel on Catalina Island that supplies tails, masks and PADI-led instruction, plus photos and GoPro video for every participant.
Mermaid Snorkel at Catalina: Glide Like a Local in the Cold Clear Coves.
On Catalina’s rocky shorelines you swap fins for a single monofin and a sculpted tail, learning breath-hold and safety techniques in water cool enough to limit time beneath the surface; the experience is run as a compact, instructor-led mermaid snorkel that supplies equipment, training, and a shared online gallery of photos and video.
Highlights
Outing Highlights
Complete kit delivered on the beach
The operator supplies a mermaid tail with monofin plus mask and snorkel for every guest, with sizes available for children and adults up to women's 28 or men's 4XL so most participants can borrow fitted gear and get in the water quickly.
PADI-led safety and freediving skills
A PADI Mermaid Instructor teaches essential safety drills—Emergency Tail Removal and the Back Float—then progresses to basic freediving and breath-hold technique so participants can swim and dive as mermaids in shallow and, where appropriate, deeper water.
Photos and GoPro video you can download
Instructors capture photos and GoPro footage during the session; participants receive access to a shared online gallery with the images and videos after the experience.
What the day feels like
What the session feels like
You meet on the beach, select a tail, mask and snorkel, sign a waiver and photo release, then walk a short stretch to the water; in shallow, standable water the instructor fits tails, issues pool noodles, demonstrates safety maneuvers and practices freediving skills before letting guests swim and look for local fish while being photographed and filmed.
