Set where mangrove channels give way to the Caribbean, this guided outing pairs a calm freshwater lagoon in the mangroves—where shafts of sunlight trace the root network and fresh/brackish fish dart among the shadows—with a short boat run to some of the Caribbean’s more pristine shallow coral gardens for a second dive.

Highlights

Outing Highlights

THE SETTING

A freshwater lagoon threaded with mangrove roots

Practice basic skills in shallow water surrounded by a mangrove root system where sunbeams create a kaleidoscope of light; the lagoon hosts jeweled cichlids, sailfin mollies, tarpon and a rare mix of fresh/brackish species.

THE DIVE

A short boat hop to pristine coral gardens

After the lagoon section, the trip makes a roughly five‑minute boat ride to a shallow reef for a second, tranquil dive among well-preserved coral gardens in the Caribbean.

THE APPROACH

Instruction and a built‑in refresher

The program begins with a brief, easy introduction to SCUBA gear and safe-diving considerations at the dive center before moving into in-water skills practice and the subsequent reef dive—offering what the operator calls the ‘best of both worlds.’

What the day feels like

How the day unfolds

You’ll meet at the dive center for a concise gear briefing and orientation, then move to a nearby freshwater lagoon among the mangroves to rehearse basic skills in shallow water before slipping into a more meditative dive beneath the mangrove roots. From there the group takes a short boat ride out to a shallow reef for a second dive among coral gardens—snacks, water, and shore/boat logistics are handled by the operator.
