On Sea Bright’s south shore, Lucky Pup Surf Camp funnels the Atlantic’s teachable moments into focused, ninety‑minute sessions for 5–7 year‑old ocean swimmers. The program is built around a 1:1 student‑to‑instructor ratio and emphasizes hands‑on surfing skills, ocean awareness and etiquette, and group camaraderie—an intentionally small, supervised environment where young swimmers progress in the water and learn to read the shorebreak.

Highlights

Outing Highlights

INSTRUCTION

One‑to‑one coaching for confident progression

The camp’s 1:1 student-to-instructor ratio ensures individualized attention: instructors are experienced surfers who are either certified in CPR and First Aid or trained lifeguards, and they focus on building skill and confidence in the water.

SAFETY

Ocean awareness is core curriculum

Beyond standing up on a board, daily sessions emphasize ocean safety, etiquette, and respect for the environment—skills that carry beyond individual lessons and into safer beach habits.

LOGISTICS

South Beach rotation across two nearby sites

Camp operates on the south end of Sea Bright at two locations on alternating weeks, allowing organizers to choose the most appropriate site for the session while keeping groups small and localized.

What the day feels like

What a Week Feels Like

Expect five compact, action‑packed mornings: each day is a 90‑minute clinic (Monday through Friday) where instructors run hands‑on lessons in the sand and in the water. Sessions mix skill drills, paddling and balance work, and supervised time catching waves or practicing flat‑water techniques when conditions are calm, all with an eye toward building confidence and friendships.

Frequently asked questions

Planning Your Outing

What ages and swim level are required to attend?

The camp is for children ages 5–7, and campers must be proficient ocean swimmers without flotation devices.

How long is each camp session and when do camps run?

Each session is 90 minutes per day and runs Monday through Friday.

What happens if the surf is too big or there is a thunderstorm?

If conditions are deemed unsafe due to large surf, the day will be cancelled and the operator will contact families; sessions remain open in rain, but will close for thunder or lightning and that day may be made up on an available camp week.

Are makeups or refunds offered for cancelled or missed days?

Makeup days are offered for cancellations caused by unsafe conditions during the summer on availability, but the school does not offer refunds or credits for campers who do not use their makeup days; there are no refunds for missed classes or for unfavorable waves or weather outside the operator’s control.

Do instructors have safety training and what is the ratio?

Instructors are experienced surfers who are certified in CPR and First Aid or are trained lifeguards; the student‑to‑instructor ratio is 1:1.

Where does camp meet and what about parking?

Camp takes place on the south end of Sea Bright at two locations depending on the week (1167 Ocean Avenue behind the Cecile F. Norton Community Center, or Anchorage Beach at 909 Ocean Avenue); drop‑off is encouraged because parking is extremely limited and the larger public lot is at 1097 Ocean Ave with fees in effect starting Memorial Day.

Can I bring my own surfboard or gear?

The school provides wetsuits and surfboards; if you prefer to bring your own board, it must be discussed and approved by the instructors.

What is the cancellation and refund policy?

Reservations are non‑refundable except in the timely cancellation case (at least 45 days prior to the first day) which receives an 80% refund excluding taxes and fees; cancellations made less than 45 days prior are non‑refundable. Substitutions and week swaps may incur a $50 service fee and must be done at least 45 days prior.
