Where do I meet my instructor?

How long is the lesson?
Private lessons run for 1.5 hours, with 10–15 minutes on the beach and the remaining time in the water with your instructor.
What should I bring?
Come dressed in your swimsuit and bring sandals, sunscreen, a towel, water and a change of warm clothing.
How early should I arrive?
Please come 15 minutes before your lesson starts. On weekends, arriving 30 minutes early is suggested due to heavy coastal traffic; you will meet your instructor 10 minutes before the scheduled lesson to change into your wetsuit.
What is the cancellation policy?
You must cancel at least 48 hours prior to the lesson to reschedule or receive a refund; there are no exceptions, including for weather, illness or personal emergencies.
Do I need to be a strong swimmer?
Less skilled swimmers will be kept in shallow waters and instructors remain with students at all times.
Can I rent gear after the lesson?
Equipment cannot be rented after the lesson; rentals are available at Mavericks Surf Shop, Cowboy Surf Shop, or Half Moon Bay Board Shop.
Should I tip my instructor?
Tipping is not required, but it is greatly appreciated if you were happy with your experience.
Will I stand up on my first lesson?
Everyone is different; whether you stand up depends on athleticism, fitness level and surf conditions.
