The annual Glow-in-the-Dark Paddle at the Onset Bay Center transforms Onset Bay into a low‑light flotilla of decorated kayaks and paddleboards. Participants borrow or bring their own craft, affix safe glowing decorations, and paddle together around the bay in a family‑friendly, community event that promises an illuminated evening on the water.

Bring Your Glow or Borrow a Craft
Participants may bring their own paddle craft or sign up to borrow OBC kayaks and boards; options include single sit‑on‑top kayaks, single paddleboards, tandem kayaks and large group boards.
Two Early-September Evenings
The event runs on two nights in early September (with rain dates) and gives paddlers an evening launch and roughly an hour on the water as a guided group before returning to the beach.
What the day feels like
What the Night Feels Like
You arrive at Onset Beach to check in and decorate your craft, then gather for a brief safety talk before launching as a led flotilla. Under the supervision of Onset Bay Center staff and safety boats, paddlers move together through the bay, the glow decorations outlining boats against the night sky—an approachable, communal paddle designed more for spectacle and social fun than distance or speed.

Details to review before reserving
Bring your own glowing decorations and affix them so they will not come off in the water. Personal flotation devices are required while on the water; OBC PFDs are available for anyone who needs one.
You may bring your own kayak, paddleboard or other paddle craft, or sign up to borrow OBC equipment. Pre‑registration is required to use OBC equipment because space is limited.
Available loaner craft include single sit‑on‑top kayaks (also suitable for one adult and a small child), single paddleboards, tandem kayaks (2–3 people) and a giant paddleboard for larger groups.
PFDs must be worn at all times on the water; make sure any glow items are safe and secured so they do not detach while paddling.

No—the Glow‑in‑the‑Dark Paddle is a free community event open to all members of the community.
When are the event dates and times?
There are two opportunities: Monday, September 8 (rain date Tuesday, September 9) and Wednesday, September 10 (rain date Thursday, September 11); check‑in runs 7:00–7:30 p.m. with launch at 7:30 and return by 8:30 p.m.
Do I need to pre‑register?
Pre‑registration is required if you want to borrow Onset Bay Center equipment; space is limited for OBC gear.
Can I bring my own kayak or paddleboard?
Yes—participants may bring their own paddle craft instead of borrowing OBC equipment.
