Self Reliant (Solo) Diving is a targeted, professional-level program designed to give experienced divers the skills, knowledge and experience to make the decisions required to operate independently underwater. The course balances classroom planning and risk discussion with hands-on gear and skill review and a minimum series of dives that build enhanced safety checks, ascent procedures and solo-specific procedures.

THE SKILLSET

Build independent decision-making and emergency skills

The course emphasizes classroom work on risks, responsibilities, planning and emergency skills alongside gear and knowledge review so participants can handle situations underwater independently and become stronger members of a dive team.

THE DIVES

A minimum dive series with optional unsupervised solo dives

Participants complete at least three dives covering enhanced safety checks, self-reliance skills, DSMB use, pony bottles, ascent procedures, bottom time management and safety/decompression stops; the third and fourth dives may be undertaken as unsupervised solo dives if desired.

THE REQUIREMENTS

This program is aimed at experienced divers who meet strict prerequisites and who bring and operate their own advanced equipment; it is not intended for novices.

Over a minimum of three dives you progress through enhanced safety checks, specific self-reliance drills, DSMB and pony-bottle practice, and refined ascent and stop procedures—culminating in the option to undertake later dives as unsupervised solo dives.
