THE STEEL

Real 1095/15N20 Damascus — supplied for each student

The course centers on stock‑removal knife making using a bar of forge‑welded 1095/15N20 Damascus. You’ll learn how the layered steels reveal themselves through polishing and acid etch, turning pattern into polished contrast.

THE PROCESS

Cut, grind, harden and etch over a single intensive day

Expect a stepwise workflow: profile and grind the blade, drill pin holes, heat and quench the steel, temper, then sand, polish and etch to reveal the Damascus pattern before fitting and finishing the handle.

THE OUTCOME

A custom knife fitted to your hand

You can select classic silhouettes—Bowie, Camp, Deba, Hunter—or create a variant, then size and shape hardwood scales with brass pins so the finished knife fits like a glove and leaves you with a lifetime keepsake.

What the day feels like

What the day feels like

The day unfolds as a focused, hands‑on progression: after orientation you’ll work with bandsaws, grinders, files and sanders to establish the blade profile, then move to the forge for hardening and back to sanding and etching as you craft and fit the handle—an intense single‑session dive into blade making.
