Mermaid Day gathers small crews of girls on select summer mornings at Whiting Ave Beach in Manasquan for a deliberately creative, land‑based day when tides make surfing impractical. Over a focused three‑hour session the operator runs rotating art and craft stations — from instructional surf art on canvas to ever‑changing seashell projects — with playful touches like pink braided hair extensions, holographic glitter and optional swim or paddle races depending on ocean conditions.

Highlights

Outing Highlights

Instructional Surf Art — a new painting each session
THE ART

Instructional Surf Art — a new painting each session

Each Mermaid Day includes an instructional surf art class using acrylics and canvas; the painting theme changes every session and organizers will not repeat the same painting twice.

Ever‑changing seashell projects and jewelry
THE CRAFTS

Ever‑changing seashell projects and jewelry

Sea shell crafts rotate weekly — examples include wind chimes, mosaics, necklaces, frames and themed pieces such as a shell whale — plus mermaid necklaces and bracelets made during the day.

Pink braids, glitter and friendly races
THE BEACH PLAY

Pink braids, glitter and friendly races

Beyond crafts, every attendee gets pink braided hair extensions and mermaid holographic glitter for arms or face; when ocean conditions allow, swim or paddle races are run to close the morning.

What the day feels like

What the morning feels like

The event unfolds like a seaside studio: arrive at the Whiting Ave access, move to the Pink Pineapple tent and spend three concentrated hours rotating between guided painting, hands‑on shell crafts, tie‑dye and jewelry making, punctuated by hair braiding and glitter stations — a short, structured beach day designed for creative play rather than surfing.

Suitability

Who it's for

Who this workshop is best for, and who should look elsewhere.

1
Young Creatives (Ages 6–8)Ideal: younger girls in the program’s specified age band will enjoy the hands‑on crafts, hair braiding and glitter stations under close supervision.
2
Older Kids (Ages 9–12)Highly suitable: older children in the 6–12 age range can take advantage of the instructional surf art and tie‑dye, and may participate confidently in swim or paddle races when conditions permit.
3
Parents & ChaperonesRecommended to attend as chaperones for logistical support and to meet badge checkers at arrival; not a drop‑off freeplay program — organizers provide structured activities for the specified age group.
4
Repeat AttendeesNot ideal to sign up for consecutive days: the operator requests participants sign up for one Mermaid Day per week because the craft changes weekly.
