Sketch x SoHum Scent Bar is a deliberately paced, two-part workshop in Tecumseh that joins hand-painted ceramics with custom fragrance design: participants paint a ceramic candle vessel in the first session, have it kiln-fired, then return the following week to choose and pour a bespoke scent into their finished piece.

THE MAKING

Hand-painted vessels fired for permanence

Begin by painting a custom-made candle vessel with Sketch Pottery; each piece is later kiln-fired so it can be used as a candle container in the second session.

THE SCENT

A fragrance bar to compose your candle’s voice

Return to SoHum’s scent bar to explore fragrance options, select a scent, and pour it into the vessel you painted—making a candle that is both visual and olfactory.

THE PACE

Two sessions across two weeks for a thoughtful result

The workshop is staged over two dates to allow kiln firing between painting and pouring, producing a finished object shaped by both hand and scent over the course of a short, deliberate arc.

What the day feels like

What the two-week workshop feels like

The first session is studio-focused and tactile—1.5 hours at Sketch Pottery painting your vessel—after which the piece is kiln-fired. One week later you return for a focused, 1-hour fragrance session at SoHum where you sample scents at the bar, settle on a blend, and pour the candle into the vessel you made, leaving with an object completed by your hands and your nose.

Frequently asked questions

Planning Your Outing

Do I have to attend both sessions?

Yes. Guests must be available to attend both dates because vessels require kiln firing between sessions.

When are the sessions and how long is each?

The first (painting) session is on June 18 and lasts 1.5 hours; the second (scent & pouring) session is on June 25 and lasts 1 hour.

What happens in the painting session?

You’ll spend 1.5 hours with Sketch Pottery painting your custom-made candle vessel; Sketch will then fire the piece in their kiln.

What happens during the scent session?

During the 1-hour SoHum session you’ll explore the fragrance bar, choose a scent, and pour your own candle into the vessel you created.

Are make-up dates available if I miss a session?

No. Because vessels require kiln firing between sessions, the operator is unable to accommodate alternate make-up dates or exceptions.
