In Rotorua’s warm, intimate hot shop you’ll learn how a drinking glass is made by hand: starting from a gather of molten glass, you blow a bubble, shape the bottom and walls, and open out the mouth of a cup. The Tumbler Workshop is a focused, introductory session designed for a single participant per slot, guided one‑on‑one by an experienced glass artist so you leave with a unique, usable piece.

THE CRAFT

Blow, Shape, and Finish Your Own Tumbler

This is the most complex of the studio’s hot‑glass experiences: you’ll blow a bubble of hot glass, shape the bottom and side walls, and open the mouth of the cup, choosing from twelve colours and three styles to make a functional tumbler.

THE PROCESS

One‑on‑one Instruction in the Hot Shop

Each hot shop experience is taught one‑on‑one, so the instructor works directly with you for the hands‑on portion of the session, typically about 25 minutes of guided work inside the 45‑minute workshop.

THE PRACTICALS

Takeaway, Shipping, and Cooling

Hot glass requires time to cool safely: pieces need roughly 16 hours to cool and are available to collect the following day or can be posted to you.

What the day feels like

What It Feels Like to Make a Tumbler

The workshop opens with a clear demonstration of tools and safety in the hot shop, then you step up to work one‑on‑one with a glass artist. After a brief introduction you spend about 25 minutes actively blowing and shaping molten glass into a tumbler you’ve chosen by colour and style, finishing under the instructor’s guidance before the piece is set aside to cool.
