Þórufoss is an absolute hidden gem that took my breath away! Just a short drive from Reykjavík, this 18-meter-high waterfall on the Laxá í Kjós river offers a serene and intimate experience, far from the usual tourist crowds.   Reaching the falls is effortless—a brief 10-minute walk from the nearby parking area along Route 48 leads you to a stunning vantage point. The trail is easy and offers diverse views, making it accessible for most visitors.  The waterfall’s trapezoidal shape and the surrounding moss-covered gorge create a picturesque scene that’s perfect for photography enthusiasts. In winter, Þórufoss transforms into a frozen wonderland, adding a magical touch to its already captivating beauty.  Fans of Game of Thrones might recognize this location as the home of the Children of the Forest, adding a layer of cinematic allure to the visit.  If you’re exploring the Golden Circle and seek a peaceful detour, Þórufoss is a must-visit. Its accessibility, natural beauty, and tranquility make it a standout spot that offers a genuine connection with Iceland’s enchanting landscapes.

A must stop if you are a waterfall lover. Beautiful and incredible, less known and less visited, which makes it an unforgettable experience. Small 5-minute detour from the golden route, it's worth it. Be very careful on the way down until you reach the waterfall. You go down close to the water, you can sense a path, but the risk of slipping is very high. There is an improvised parking lot (free)
