Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage

Devils Den Preserve is a 1,746-acre nature preserve located in Willistown Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania. The preserve features a mix of rocky outcrops, mature forests dominated by oaks, hickories, and maples, and a network of streams and vernal pools that support diverse ecological communities. The diverse terrain includes steep hills and impressive talus slopes composed of large sandstone boulders, creating a unique landscape for visitors to explore. Historically, the area was mined for iron ore, and remnants of old mining operations can still be found on the preserve. Today, it is maintained by the Willistown Conservation Trust as a haven for native plants and animals, including several bird and amphibian species.
