The Lenox Community Wildlife Management Area (WMA) is a 980-acre protected tract located in Essex County, Virginia. Managed by the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources, Lenox Community WMA is primarily forested with mixed hardwoods and managed wetlands, providing vital habitat for a wide range of wildlife species including white-tailed deer, wild turkey, waterfowl, and small game. Its terrain consists of gently rolling hills, swamps, and open fields, supporting diverse plant communities and acting as an important refuge for migratory birds. Established to promote sustainable hunting, wildlife conservation, and passive recreation, the area gives visitors the opportunity to engage in hunting seasons for deer, turkey, and waterfowl, as well as wildlife watching and hiking. While the area does not have developed facilities such as campgrounds, it offers unmarked walking paths and access roads suitable for exploration on foot or ATV during authorized periods. The surrounding region typifies rural eastern Virginia's landscape, with proximity to the Rappahannock River and the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Lenox Community WMA is favored by local hunters and birdwatchers for its quiet, less crowded environment and presence of wetland ecosystems that enhance wildlife diversity.
